Case Strategy

Category: Legal

Litigation strategy: case theory, strengths and weaknesses, evidence, discovery, motions, settlement posture, budget.

When to use this template

Use it when the conversation is how to run the case — internal team strategy, partner-level case review, a war-room discussion. The capture is heavier on theory and exposure than Client Intake. For the actual mediation or settlement discussion, see Mediation & Settlement. For a witness interview, see Deposition Summary.

Fields captured

  • Matter name / caption — the case identifier.
  • Case theory — the story the team will tell, by claim and defense.
  • Strengths — strong points for your side.
  • Weaknesses or risks — exposure, bad facts, and evidentiary risks.
  • Key evidence — exhibits, documents, and witnesses.
  • Discovery plan — what you want to discover and from whom.
  • Motion practice — motions to file or expect from opposing counsel.
  • Settlement posture — the team's posture on a settlement number or structure.
  • Budget or resource notes — staffing, expert needs, and budget.
  • Decisions made — what the team decided in this conversation.
  • Open questions — unresolved strategic questions.
  • Next steps — concrete tasks with optional owner and due date.
  • Key takeaways — the AI's prioritized summary points.

The standard summary, attendees, and per-section summaries also apply.

Sub-views, role views, and pipeline artifacts

  • Sub-views: none.
  • Role views: Legal.

Exports

PDF, DOCX, and Markdown render case theory, strengths, weaknesses, and key evidence as the lead blocks, with discovery / motions / settlement / budget underneath. Decisions made and open questions appear at the end so they are not lost. Approved legal role views appear as labeled sections.
